Do you know how many kinds of lilies there are? I’ll tell you: the genus to which they belong (Lilium) is made up of about 110 species, 110! With so much variety, it is impossible not to be able to enjoy a wonderful collection, since its cultivation both in the garden and in a pot is very simple.
But of course, talking about all of them in a single article is complicated, so I’m going to tell you the characteristics of the most popular.
Types of lilies
The lilies They are bulbous that produce their flowers in late spring and into early summer. Generally, they do not grow much, but still it is possible to grow them both in pots and in the garden. So let’s see which are the most beautiful and easy to find for sale:
gilded lily
It is a species that reaches a height of 2,5 meters, being the largest of all the Lilium genus. What’s more, produces white flowers with golden lines and orange dots that give off a very pleasant aroma.
bulbiferous lily
It is a herbaceous plant that grows to a height of between 40 and 80 centimeters in height. Produces large flowersup to 7cm in diameter, of an orange color very striking.

Known as lily or, simply, lily, it is a perennial herbaceous that reaches a maximum height of 70 centimeters and that produces white hermaphroditic flowers. The fruit is a capsule inside which are pale colored seeds.
Lily of the valley

Known in English as tiger lily (tiger lily), it is a plant that reaches up to 2 meters in height. Produces orange hanging flowers with overlapping black spots.

Known as the lily of the Pyrenees, it is a herbaceous plant that reaches 1,3 meters in height. Produces lots of flowersup to 12, yellow, orange or red that give off an unpleasant aroma.
How long does the Lilium flower last?
Now that we’ve seen the main species, you might want to know how long the flowers last, right? Well, although it depends on many factors, such as location, climate or land, in general you have to know that if they are well cared for, they will remain open for about three weeks or so. It is also important to say that they only bloom once a year, coinciding with spring and summer.
It is not possible to know at what exact moment they will produce their flowers, because it will depend on the kind of lily it is and the temperatures that are at that moment. But as soon as its leaves sprout, you will know that you will not have to wait long for them to bloom.
How do you take care of the Lilium?
Lilies are easy to care for, as they don’t need a lot to be well. But so that problems do not arise, we are going to see in detail where they have to be put and how to keep them healthy:
Location
The various kinds of lilies are plants that they have to be in a place where they receive a lot of natural light. Therefore, if they are kept at home, they must be placed in a bright room, in which there are windows. If, on the other hand, they are going to be outside, they will be in full sun or in semi-shade.
Earth
Lilies are not too picky about this. All they need is soil that drains water well (as this) so that its roots do not remain waterlogged. But what is very important is that, if they are to be kept in a pot, it has holes in its base since this way the water will not remain stagnant inside the container.
Irrigation
The watering of the Lilies will be moderate. They must be watered about two or three times a week, except when the flower withers, which will suffice to water when the soil is dry. since the plants will have come to rest. If they are indoors, they have to be watered somewhat less since the soil takes longer to dry. So that there are no problems, it is advisable to check the humidity before adding water. This can be done for example by introducing a thin wooden stick, because when you remove it you will see if a lot of soil has adhered to it, in which case it would not be necessary to water, or not.
