How to plant peppers?

The best time to plant peppers is 2 to 2 ½ weeks before the last frost. You must place several pepper seeds in a container of at least 15 liters and at least 20 cm deep with soil.

Place the seeds in the soil and cover with a little soil, leaving a gap between each one. These will germinate in 10 or 20 days. If you buy peppers in seedlings, you should plant peppers in the garden with about 15 cm of separation between plants.

The pepper plant prefers fertile, light soil that is not too nitrogen-rich, as this could cause the peppers to never flower. Add compost to the garden where you are going to plant the pepper or add the compost to the soil mixture that goes in the pot.

Then, you will have to leave the planter somewhere that is protected from the cold. When the plants have reached 13 cm high, you will have to remove the weakest and leave the strongest. Then, it will be necessary to transfer to the garden. In cold climates, it is best to wait for the beginning of spring to transplant.

Sun and irrigation

The pepper is fascinated by the sun, so if you want to plant a variety of this plant in your urban garden or in a planter, you will have to place it in a place where it gets plenty of suns. On the other hand, it is essential that there is a minimum temperature of 19 ° C at the time of flowering so that the pepper can produce fruit.

As for watering, the pepper plant does not require a lot of water, so you should not water it frequently, but you have to do it when it is very hot. When watering pepper plants, be very careful not to get the fruits wet, as this can cause them to rot. The best watering for pepper plants is drip irrigation.

When are the peppers harvested?

When you see a very intense green tone, this will be the time to harvest peppers. Keep in mind that a single plant can produce between 10 and 15 fruits. When picking them up, it is important that you leave them a couple of inches out of the corner.

Parasitic causes

  • Whitefly
  • Red spider
  • White spider
  • Snails and slugs
  • Aphid
  • Caterpillar
  • Nematodes
  • Trips

Tips for breeding new plants

Take a pepper of the variety you want and cut it with the help of a knife. Take the handful of seeds you have and store them in a place where they can dry. Sow the seeds as we have previously mentioned without wetting them as you would with other plants since these can rot, unlike others.

Other tips

The flavor of the pepper and concentration of the spice is sensitive to the climate so that in extremely sunny summers these characteristics are usually enhanced, but in colder and more humid summers they are likely to lose flavor and itchiness. Therefore, it is advisable to find a place with plenty of suns to plant peppers. On the other hand, keep in mind that if the plant has reached 40 cm, you will have to place a stick or tutor.
