Know the main classes of roses that exist

Roses are classified into 3 main groups, and each of them is made up of as many types of roses. The classifications have been carried out taking into account the history of the rose, the way it has to grow, the care of its cultivation, as well as other important factors.

 Old roses

The ancient or old roses are those who come from very specific countries. Its main peculiarity is that they have existed since, at least, the year 1867 without experiencing any type of modification.

Another of its characteristics is its flowering, and it is that they only do it once before the summer begins. When they do, we can identify them thanks to their strong smell.

Furthermore, they are very resistant, even to the most aggressive climates, and require minimal pruning.

Some examples of old roses are: Yolande d’Aragon , Baronne Prevost and Lady Banks ,

Wild roses

Wild roses (also known as wild) are defined as those kinds of rose bushes that have lived without the need for human action; that is, by their own means.

The most normal thing is to find them in red, white, and pink tones, although they can also be found in other colors. They have 5 petals, they are very easy to maintain, they hold well and, in the same way as the previous ones, they will only flower once a year.

The Multiflora Rose and Rugosa Rose are among the best examples.

 Modern rose bushes

The last classification of rose types is that of modern/hybrid roses. They were created by man; For this, a rigorous selection was made of the best parts of the old flowers: the result is a new generation of roses.

They are roses created to measure: in the crops of the same, flowers of new colors, fragrances, and sizes of the most varied have been obtained. They have also been modified to present greater resistance to disease, as well as to flourish more frequently.

In other words, they no longer only flower once a year.

Within this classification of rose classes, we can again make another division:

Rosa Grandiflora

A type of rose characterized by abundant blooming. The flowers will grow on a base of long stems; These can be grouped, or be unique.

Floribunda Rose

For its part, the floribunda rose variation presents the flowers following a singular shape of clusters. The flowers are small, but at the same time brighter.

Not only do they bloom once, but they can do so throughout the season.

Hybrid Tea Rose

Today they are the best-known type of rose. They are very large and beautiful; In addition, we can get them in a wide range of colors.

For example, if you have ever bought roses for your boyfriend or girlfriend on Valentine’s Day, chances are you’ve opted for this guy.

Some examples of hybrid tea roses are Amber Queen or Gold Medal.

Classification according to its growth form.

In addition, according to the form of growth of the rose, some classifications are also established:

  • Miniature growth: Roses that measure between 30-90cm, ideal for planting in small pots.
  • Climbers: They grow along stems that can be tied to bars or pergolas. They help create privacy in any environment.
  • Shrubs: They grow vertically, or across the ground. They do not require any type of support and can flourish several times.
  • Standing rose/tree: Finally, we have this type of rose. The great advantage of them is that it is highly decorative but, in return, requires high maintenance, in addition to being very vulnerable to cold.

This has been an advanced classification of the different types of existing roses.
