Creepers according to their role in the garden

In addition to being the most showy and decorative , climbing plants and vines can be very functional for our garden. This is due to the main characteristic of the thousands of species that make up this group: Their vertical growth , which is capable of covering all kinds of surfaces such as walls, gates or fences, among others.

Take a look at some of its uses in each of the spaces in your garden and also write down which are the most used specimens in each case.

You must bear in mind to begin with that there are basically two types of climbers: Those that are attached to the wall by themselves in a natural way (self-adhering) and those that must be adjusted on the surfaces with our help.

Regarding areas and specimens, pay attention to the following list:

  • For walls : It gives a special charm to homes, especially rustic-style houses or farmhouses that add even more naturalness to the architecture. Some of the most used are the virgin vine (Parthenocissus tricuspidata), the climbing ficus or ivy.
  • For outdoor Balinese pergolas or beds : If they are already the most sophisticated in the garden, decorating it with climbing plants will give it an even more magical touch. In these spaces, fast-growing specimens in hanging pots are convenient for you: Campanillas, Bella de Día, ‘Correquetepillo’ …
  • Fences and walls : Contrary to what is often thought, in this case the climbers are not only used to cover unattractive surfaces but also to give a more flirtatious and natural touch to the space. You can use ivy, honeysuckle, jasmine, matchstick or ipomea, for example.

If you are interested in decorating any of the spaces with flowering plants, bet on Wisteria, Campsis Radicans, Jasminum or Clematis; If you want specimens that give aroma to your home, the rose bushes, the Honeysuckle or the Lady at night will be ideal for your garden.
