We are passionate about plants and trees and we do not like to harm any living being. However, we know that it is sometimes necessary to kill a tree, especially when it represents a threat to our own safety or that of our neighbors because it has grown too large. Sometimes we also have to make this drastic decision because space is needed or because we want to plant a smaller tree.
Regardless of the causes, here are some methods on how to kill a tree when you have no other option left.
Drill
One way to kill a tree that is posing a threat is by drilling several holes around the circumference of the tree’s trunk. Then you will have to fill them with nitrogen fertilizer and, over time, the fungus will grow in the holes and decompose the wood.
This is a long process that can take around four to six weeks . On the other hand, you can fill in the herbicide holes by cutting a ring around the trunk.
Copper nails
It is also helpful to pierce as much of the tree trunk as you can with copper nails, which will allow the fungus to enter the tree and break it down.
Salt
Another way to kill a tree is by drilling several holes in the trunk and any exposed roots. Then you must fill the holes with coarse salt and cover with sand or aluminum foil. This will kill the tree in a week or two.
Chainsaw
Of course, the best way to kill a tree is to cut it down by the roots using a chainsaw. However, it is a method that cannot be used if the tree is too large or there is a danger of property damage from falling trees.
