Growing Vegetables in Seedbeds

The sowing of seeds can be done in different ways, although generally the most recommended and the most used is to do it through seedbeds, which can be specific or simply be any type of container to carry out the cultivation. The specific containers to make seedlings can be flowerpots, yogurt containers, trays, basins, among others.

The seedlings in containers can be made during any time of the year, it is generally important that we pay attention to the type of vegetable that we are going to plant and the climate of the area where we live, since from there, we can sow it at a time of year or in other. For example, we can do them undercover to start some type of vegetable cultivation, especially when the end of winter arrives, since the low-temperature conditions prevent the seed from developing outside. In the same way, keep in mind the following tips to sow vegetables in seedlings in containers.

Once you have chosen the container in which you want to sow your seeds, you must fill it with sand and peat substrate, 50 percent of one and 50 percent of the other. If you have chosen a tray of alveoli, to carry out the sowing remember that you must make a hole in each of the compartments of the container using your finger or a toothpick, and deposit the seed in each hole. If, on the other hand, you use another type of container, you must spread the seeds and cover them with a very light layer of the substrate.

It is recommended that you cover each of the containers with transparent plastic or transparent glass, in order to create a kind of mini-greenhouse so that moisture can be retained and kept at a suitable temperature.
