How to plant ginger

This is a rhizomatous plant that you can have both in a pot and in your garden. In addition to adding it to the recipes that we prepare in the kitchen, it has wonderful medicinal properties that we cannot ignore, for example, you should know that it is our best ally to maintain a healthy digestive system .

But today we are not going to talk about its medicinal part, but we are going to focus on how to plant ginger , whether it is bought from the supermarket or a garden store.

Ginger

Ginger, whose scientific name is Zingiber officinale , is a plant that is very easy to grow and maintain. However, for everything to go smoothly, you must make sure that, at the time of purchase, it does not present wrinkles or mold. Likewise, it should not be soft either, otherwise it would not serve us.

Once at home, take a pot about 40cm deep, and also wide (the more, the better). Fill it with a mixture of 70% universal garden soil and 30% organic fertilizer -such as earthworm humus or horse manure-. It is also advisable to place a first layer of volcanic clay , clay balls or even small stones inside in order to ensure that the water drains quickly and that the substrate does not remain waterlogged for too long.

Place your gingers on the surface of the earth, and cover them a little , as you can see in the image above. Finally, you will only have to put the pot in a bright place, but protected from direct sunlight.

You can also plant it directly in a bowl of room temperature water

until it starts to sprout. Place it in a room where there is a lot of light, and you will see how in a matter of a few days you will have a new ginger plant.
