Should I buy a clay or plastic pot?

Today I am going to talk to you about a topic that has made us all doubt at some point, and it is none other than how to choose the type of pot that best suits our needs, because although until a few years ago we used to opt more for those made of clay or terracotta because of how rustic and ornamental they are, now it is more complicated for us. It turns out that in nurseries and garden stores it is becoming easier to find plastic pots made especially for outdoors, which have a longer useful life than traditional plastic pots, since they are made of a material that better resists continuous exposure to sun.

So, in the midst of this sea of doubts, let’s see if we buy a clay or plastic pot .

Clay pots are designed for outdoor use. They have the right weight to withstand gusts of wind, and they can last us a long, long time with proper maintenance. In addition, we can customize them as we want. It should also be added that it will be easier for the root system of the plants to hold on to the inside of it, which will help ensure optimal growth.

That said, these types of pots are very suitable for:

  • Wind gusty areas
  • Low maintenance patios or decks
  • To integrate them into rustic gardens

Plastic pots are the most used by those who plan to have their patio full of plants, and/or do not want to spend a lot of money on this type of object. If they are going to be kept inside the home, we can choose the ones that we like the most; but if they are going to be outside, the ideal is to acquire those that are for outside. The latter have a somewhat higher cost, but we can use them for a longer time since they will not break so easily.

Taking all this into account, we will take plastic pots if:

  • We plan to have a collection of plants
  • Our budget is low
  • We like this type of pots better

And which one do you prefer?
