Also known as the rosary plant, its scientific name is Senecio rowleyanus and is a perennial succulent native to southwestern Africa. Its spherical leaves, sprouting from thin stems with a creeping bearing, make it one of the most beloved plants. for hanging pots.

It must be in semi-shade, with a substrate that drains the water well, and receive rather scarce waterings since it does not resist flooding at all. Precise protection against frost.

Nasturtium

Known as queen’s taco, galán spur, blood flower, marañuela, Indian cress or pelón, it is a climbing or creeping plant with an annual cycle (that is, it only lives one year) whose scientific name is Tropaeloum major that grows to 30-40cm maximum. Produces yellow, orange, red or bicolor flowers throughout the summer.

You have to put it in a sunny exhibition, and water frequently. As a curiosity, you should know that both the leaves and the flowers can be consumed, for example in salads 🙂.

It is a perennial herbaceous plant with tapered leaves (hence one of its popular names), also known as spider, love tie or malamadre. It is native to South Africa, and its scientific name is Chlorophytum comosum. It does not grow much, about 20-25cm, and as it produces suckers from the stolons that seem to “fall”, it is one of the plants that is most used as a pendant..

It needs to be in semi-shade, with well-draining substrates, and receive moderate watering. It resists cold and weak frosts down to -2ºC.

It is a beautiful perennial herbaceous plant native to South Africa that is grown as an annual. It grows very fast, in fact, in a matter of a few weeks even the pot could be hidden between its leaves and flowers, which are produced in large numbers from spring to fall and are red or pink. It does not exceed 50cm in height.

It can be both in full sun and in semi-shade (as long as it receives more light than shade), and needs moderate watering, letting the soil dry out between waterings. It does not resist cold or frost.

It is a plant native to America and Oceania known as earrings, earrings, or queen’s tendrils. The species that are commercialized are shrubs between 20 and 40 centimeters high, and are therefore the ones that are interesting to grow in hanging pots, but as a curiosity, add that there is one in New Zealand, the Fuchsia excorticatawhich grows as a tree up to 15 meters.

It is a perennial plant native to southern and eastern South Africa whose scientific name is pelargonium peltatum which grows to 30-40cm tall, with hanging / creeping stems. Its flowers bloom throughout the yearbut with greater vigor in summer and early autumn.

Its care is relatively simple: it must be located in the sun or in partial shade, water frequently, and it does not hurt to do preventive treatments against the geranium worm.

It is a perennial climbing or creeping plant native to Europe, Africa and Asia that grows fast, so that it is important to prune it frequently. Its flowers are small, greenish, and have no ornamental value.

It must be protected from the sun, and water it moderately to sparingly. Resists cold and frost down to -6ºC.

Known as house joy, it is an annual or perennial herbaceous native to the temperate-warm and tropical regions of the world. Depending on the species, it grows between 20cm and one meter in height, and produces its small but decorative white, pink, lilac, or red flowers during the summer.

It needs an exposure protected from the star king, and rather frequent waterings. It does not support the cold nor the temperatures below zero.

It is a perennial fern native to the temperate regions of the Old World that reaches 50 centimeters in height. As its leaves are long and hanging, and it also produces suckers, it is fantastic to have in pots in corners where sunlight does not reach.

It requires frequent watering and a fertile substrate. It supports frosts down to -3ºC if they are punctual and of short duration.

Petunia

Petunias are a perennial herbaceous plant that is treated as an annual native to South America. Its height is low, from about 15 to 60cm, the usual being about 30-35cm. It has a very fast growth rate, so much so that blooms the same year as sowing, from early spring to late fall, with white, lilac, pink, red or bicolor flowers.

To be beautiful it needs sun or semi-shade, a substrate rich in nutrients and very frequent waterings but avoiding waterlogging. It does not resist cold or frost.

Verbena is an annual or perennial plant native to the temperate and warm regions of the world. Its main attraction is its flowers, which sprout in great numbers during spring-summer. As for its height, say that it grows up to 40cm.

It requires sunny exposure and moderate to frequent watering, since it does not withstand drought. It does not support the cold nor the frosts.
