Did you know that dieffenbachia can be multiplied by cuttings? In fact, when the plant feels so comfortable with the care we provide it, it reaches an astonishing height, often even touching the ceiling. Of course, when that happens, there is no choice but to cut it a little.

These stems that we have after pruning, we can turn them into new specimens to give away … or to expand the collection. So lets see how to multiply dieffenbachia by cuttings.

When is made?

If we want to multiply our precious plant by cuttings, the ideal is to do it in spring or, at the latest, in autumn if we live in an area with a mild climate.

Dieffenbachia, being tropical, only grows during the months that have warm temperatures, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, so if we take cuttings in winter, it is most likely that they will not succeed.

How is it multiplied by cuttings?

To multiply by cuttings you have to first take a small hand saw -A serrated knife is also worth- that we will disinfect with pharmacy alcohol or with a few drops of dishwasher. Thus, we will minimize the chances that the fungi that may be there will make it sick.

Once we have the tool, we will lower your height as long as we want as long as we can only cut the stems that are already hard, that is, semi-light. The most tender will not root.

Have we done it? Then we can move on to the next step, which is to impregnate the base with homemade rooterslike the ones we recommend in this article. The last thing we have to do is plant them in a pot with growing medium for plants (like this one that you can buy here!) or with vermiculite (you can get it here!) and water.

In the course of about 20 days they will emit their own roots and, after a while, we will see their first leaves emerge as individual plants.
