El japanese maple It is a deciduous tree native to Japan and South Korea that has more than one of us in love. There are many varieties, and from time to time new cultivars appear for sale. Depending on all of it, can reach a height of between 5 and 16 meters. You have probably seen images of this species growing in full sun, but I can tell you with complete confidence that it is one of the best suited to semi-shadow. In fact, in the Mediterranean climate (or similar) there is no choice but to place it sheltered from the sun so that the summer does not “burn” it, and if it has the right substrate -akadama alone or mixed with 30% kiryuzuna- it has good development.

If the climate is temperate-cool, with temperatures between -18ºC and 30ºC, and the soil is acidic (pH between 4 and 6), you can plant it in your garden.

Although you can see it in the image growing in full sun, it adapts very well to semi-shade. It is ideal for temperate climates with frosts down to -18ºC.

Aesculus hippocastanus

Horse chestnut or Aesculus hippocastanum

El Horse Chestnut It is one of those deciduous trees originating in the temperate regions of Albania, Bulgaria, former Yugoslavia and Greece that are impressive to see. Reaches a height of 30 metersBesides giving an excellent shade, from experience I can tell you that it adapts perfectly to semi-shade. And to show a button:

Aesculus hipposcatanum or Horse Chestnut

I have him under the shade net and every year he gets, if I may say so, more handsome . Resists up to -17ºC.

Robusta grevillea

Known as Silky Oak, Australian Oak, Silver Oak, Fire Tree or Golden Pine, it is an evergreen tree native to the eastern coasts of Australia. It reaches a height between 18 and 35 meters and, despite being in the shape of a column, it grows excellently in areas protected from the sun. Resists up to -7ºC.

Luscious privet

Ligustrum lucidum tree, a beautiful plant for your garden with saline soil

Known as privet, privet, or henna, it is an evergreen tree native to the southern half of China that reaches a height of between 3 and 8 meters. In Europe it is often used to decorate the avenues and streets of towns and cities, areas where the sun does not always reach directly. As if that were not enough, it resists well to frosts down to -12ºC and lives without problems in the Mediterranean region, with summers of up to 35-38ºC (as long as it does not lack water).
