I love palm trees. Unfortunately, I live in an area where there is very little variety, so I have no choice but to buy them online if I want to expand the collection. But still, from time to time in the nurseries they usually bring some other interesting novelty. However, before taking it home it is very important that I check it well.

If you also like these plants, or you just want to have some in your garden or terrace, write down these tips for buying palm trees and thus manage to always take home those that are perfectly healthy.

The palm tree has to be healthy before buying it. If it has pests or any disease it could easily spread to the plants that we already have in the garden. Therefore, You have to observe it well, check its leaves on both sides, the trunk, and even the pot. If many roots come out of the drainage holes, or if the trunk literally occupies the entire container, the most advisable thing to do is to choose another specimen as it would be very difficult to first extract it from said pot and then if it could withstand the transplant reasonably well.

Likewise, do not buy palm trees that have yellow leaves or holes in the trunkWell, he’s probably not going through his prime.

Choose palm trees resistant to your climate

It is very important, both for the palm trees themselves and for our pockets, to acquire species that are resistant to the climate of our area.. If we live in a temperate region and we buy a coconut tree, predictably in autumn it will start to get ugly and with the arrival of winter we will have to throw it into the compost heap, and the same would happen if we got a Ceroxylon living in a tropical climate. Therefore, in case of doubt, check with the nursery … or with us .

Always buy them in a pot

From time to time at fairs and markets, and even online stores, they sell you bare-root palm trees. This is a very big mistake. A palm tree sold like this has very little chance of survival. We have to remember that they are giant herbs, but herbs after all. When we remove an herb from the ground, even if we take great care to extract it with all its roots, it suffers a lot to the point that after a few days it dies. The same thing happens with palm trees.

To avoid unnecessary loss of money, always buy potted plants.

By following these tips, your purchase is sure to be perfect.
