Meet the majestic palm tree

Ravenea rivularis

If we recently talked about the Red Palm, very popular and decorative for its red stems, this time we will do it from the Majestic Palm Tree. A species much more resistant to cold, which will give it that tropical touch that is often loved in the garden.

You don’t have land where to plant it? If so … put it in the living room. It will look great.

Ravenea rivularis

This precious palm tree is scientifically known as Ravenea rivularisand belongs to the family arecaceae (before Palmaceae). It is a species that has a single smooth trunk of about 30 to 40cm in diameter, and which reaches heights from five to ten meters. The length of the leaves is ideal to give a little shade, but without obstructing the step: they measure about five feet, bright green.

Despite being originally from Madagascar, it is one of the palm trees of tropical origin that best adapts to climates with mild frosts -up to four degrees below zero- as long as they are brief. But, as we said before, if there are cold winters in your area, a room with lots of natural light will be great.

Don’t worry if your palm begins to turn the older leaves brown. It is very common when they are newly planted and during their first year abroad. In the Ravenea that you can see in the image you can see some new leaves emerging from the center, totally healthy.

As a substrate you can use the following mixture: equal parts black peat, volcanic clay and coconut fiber. It will usually need to be watered about two or three times a week, depending on the temperatures and the weather.

To have an even more beautiful specimen, Fertilize it throughout the growing period (from spring to late summer) with a specific fertilizer for palm trees; You can also use organic fertilizers to take care of the environment.
