A new way of life looms on the horizon. It has been in force for some years and proposes a healthy alternative in tune with the environment. For some it is a fashion, for others a lifestyle but those who practice it claim to feel in harmony.
In some way, we could speak of a more natural, slower lifestyle, where spaces and times are recovered, and we become aware of food and those products that we put in our mouths, in which they are kept in takes into account the needs of the environment. It includes the practice of yoga, reiki or any other activity that removes energy, a conscious diet and activities related to recycling.
More and more people are joining this way of life and it is common in this plan that they also look for a small area of land to have their ecological garden or, when space is short, they design beautiful vertical gardens using in many cases recycled objects. To take inspiration, today I invite you to know the Living Pavilion, a large vertical garden designed with recycled milk crates which can serve as a starting point if you are looking for a healthy lifestyle and want to take ideas for your garden.
An ethical facility
Installed in 2010 in Governors Island, New Yorkthe structure was intended as a temporary design and meeting point for artistic activities and has received numerous awards and recognitions (winner of the City of Dreams Pavilion Competition 2010 and The Emerging New York Architects Committee of the American Institute of Architects New York awards Chapter and Structural Engineers Association of New York).
Ann Ha and Behrang Behin They are the creators of this curious curved vertical garden called Living Pavilion, a design that has been thought from a large number of disused milk crates. The structure can be traveled by people from one end to the other in order to enjoy its interior, where a large green blanket appears that covers the entire surface. The selected plants tolerate shade while the surface of the structure moderates the temperature and this is how the interior is fresh and airy. The project has also been an example of new technologies linked to ecological construction of green roofs and walls.
These days, the installation has been disassembled and the planted boxes have been distributed in different areas of New York, whether in homes, public places or communal gardens.
An example to consider
With an eye to the future, the designers thought of a project that would bring green back to urban spaces. This is how they describe their Living Pavilion as a synthesis of form, structure, life and light. On the other hand, this installation has focused on the recycling ethics and activities related to the reuse of objects.
This low impact installation proposes a novel alternative in vertical gardens, it is a great example of how it is possible to recycle objects to create a unique space taking advantage of numerous species of plants that can grow without having to be planted in the ground.
In addition, the project is an example of how it is possible to transform a common object into something original and with it the designers sought to encourage people to discover their everyday objects and see their potential in them.
