Origin and characteristics

Our protagonist are a series of herbaceous, perennial and bulbous plants of the genus Babiana, which is composed of about 90 species native to South Africa. The vast majority of them live in the southwestern Cape of Africa, and the rest are distributed between Namaqualand and the northern Cape province.
