This tree, whose scientific name is Eleagnus angustifoliais native to Russia and central Asia. It grows to a height of 10 meters; although you should know that there are specimens that have exceeded 20m. It has a great tendency to grow inclined, so it is not surprising that, as it reaches adulthood, it ends up falling and taking new shoots. Your root system is harmlessas its roots are shallow, staying on the surface. Its leaves, which fall in autumn, are lanceolate, with a smooth edge and dark green, with a whitish midrib.

Its small but beautiful flowers can be seen in spring. They are white-yellow in color and have 4 petals. And, towards the beginning of autumn, the fruits, which will surely remind you of olives, will be ripe and ready to eat.

In cultivation it is a tree that needs frequent watering, between 2 and 3 times a week in summer and 2 every seven days the rest of the year. It can live without problems in mild and temperate climates, where will withstand frosts down to minus 5 degrees Celsius. It is not demanding in terms of type of soil, growing even in sandy ones, but it is convenient to place it in full sun so that it has an optimal development.

To get a compact cup should be pruned after frostremoving the dry and weak branches, and also those that have grown too much.
