Group of Sempervivum

There are many plants that can reproduce asexually, that is, when you cut a branch and put it in a pot or in the ground, it will take root. However, to help this new specimen to start growing normally, we can impregnate the base of the cutting with rooting hormones.

But What exactly are they? And how are they applied?

What are they and how are they applied?

Rooting hormones are a natural product that stimulates root growth of the cuttings. In this way, they accelerate development, thus increasing the probability that the branch will become a new plant, a new specimen. Therefore, it is highly recommended to apply it to our cuttings so that they root, and can grow and develop without problems, since although there are types of plants (such as succulents) that root without difficulty, a little help will not hurt .

Applying them is very simple. We just have to moisten the base of the cutting with water, and sprinkle the hormones. These, thanks to the water, will remain attached to the stem, so when planting it in a pot, we can be completely sure that the hormones will continue to be where they should be.

Can you make natural rooting hormones?

Variegated Leaved Yucca

Yes, of course. There are two ways to make natural rooting hormones, and they are as follows:

  • Put a handful of lentils, soybeans, or corn in a glass of water, and leave them there until they germinate. Once they do, dilute it in 1l of water.
  • Another method is to cut several willow rods, remove the leaves, and place them in a bucket with water up to half more or less. After a couple of days, you will see that the water begins to be like jellyand with it you can water your cuttings so that they root soon.

As you can see, even with natural rooting hormones you can save a little money and take care of your plants .
