Tobacco

Pests can do a lot of damage to plants. To avoid this, sometimes there is no choice but to get hold of a pesticide, but those sold in nurseries can hurt our economy, so why not use one that we already have at home?

Interesting idea, right? Keep reading and we will explain you step by step how to make a pesticide with tobacco.

What I need?

Choosing organic pesticides is always the best solution, since they do not harm the environment. Even so, if there is someone in the family who is trying to quit smoking, you can help them by giving a new use to cigarettes, a use that can help the plants a lot to stay free of pests. How do you do it? Very easy.

The first thing to do is prepare what you will need, which in this case is 10 new cigars (or 20 grams of rolling tobacco), 1 liter of water, rubbing alcohol, two plastic containers, a fine strainer and a spray bottle. You got it? Let’s go step by step.

To make the pesticide you have to follow these steps:

  1. The tobacco is first extracted, discarding the paper and the filter, and placed in a small container with a lid.
  2. Afterwards, the sanitary alcohol is added, just enough so that it is completely covered, and the container is closed.
  3. Then, it is placed in an area where the light does not reach and it is left to rest for about 24 hours.
  4. The contents of the jar are then poured through the strainer into a new container so that we can only keep the liquid.
  5. Finally, the sprayer is filled with a liter of water and the liquid extracted from the tobacco is poured into it.

Using it three times a week, we can avoid and control the most common pests that affect plants, such as spider mites or aphids.
