How to plant pumpkin seeds?

If you would like to grow your own pumpkins, nothing better than to get an envelope of seeds and prepare a seedbed so they can germinate. Then, taking care of them is simple, since they are plants that do not need much to have an excellent development.

Anyway, as doubts can always arise, then we are going to tell you how to sow pumpkin seeds step by step.

First of all, it is very important to prepare everything that is going to be used so that later we do not have to waste time searching. For what we want to do, we need:

  • Hotbed: It can be anything: milk containers, yogurt glasses, flowerpots, … I advise you to use a tray like the one you see in the image, as it will allow you to have greater control over the germination of the seeds and, incidentally, you will get them to start their life “on the right foot” (well, root 🙂).
  • Substratum: either substrate for seedlings that they sell already prepared in the nurseries or here!, or one made by us with 60% mulch + 30% perlite and 10% worm castings.
  • Watering can: with water.
  • Tags: you have to write the name of the plant and the sowing date, so you still have greater control over the crop.
  • An outdoor area with light: the seeds will not germinate if they are in shade.
  • Seeds: Without them none of this will do. They are bought in spring, which is when they also have to be sown.

Step by step – How to sow them

Now that we have it all Let’s see what steps we must follow so that the seeds germinate well:

  1. First, you have to fill the seedbed with the substrate that we have chosen.
  2. Then, we water conscientiously.
  3. Next, we place a maximum of two seeds in each socket. Do not put more, otherwise it will be very difficult to separate the seedlings later on.
  4. The next step is to cover them with a thin layer of substrate, thick enough so that the sun’s rays do not hit them directly and so that the wind does not carry them away in case of blowing with some force.
  5. Finally, we moisten the surface of the substrate with a sprayer and place the seedbed outside, in full sun.

I hope these tips help you to have your pumpkin patch 🙂.
