How to tie tomato plants?

How to tie tomato plants? These plants grow very fast, and it must also be borne in mind that they are usually very productive, which is undoubtedly a reason for joy. But … the branches they have may not support the weight of so many tomatoes, so it is very important to train them when they are still small.

The question is: how do you do that? What materials are needed to ensure that the plants can produce the largest possible number of fruits without them falling to the ground prematurely?

Before even planting the seedlings in the ground, it is highly recommended to place the tutors, since now that there is nothing, it will be much easier for us to put them on. Then, as they grow, we will only have to take some ropes and tie them to the posts. Not sure what to use as tutors? Do not worry. Here are some ideas:

  • Bamboo poles
  • Iron rods
  • Wood sticks
  • Mop / broom sticks

As you can see, it is not necessary to complicate much, although you should know that in nurseries and others they sell rods at a very good price, like these here:

Once you have them, You must nail them to the ground at a distance of about 40-50cm between them. If you have chosen bamboo poles or rods that have a certain flexibility, you can place them in a triangle, leaving about 40cm between a rod or rod and the one next to it.

The next step is to plant the tomato plants, take care, and let them reach a height of about 50 or 60 centimeters, which is more or less when they are preparing to bear fruit. So with that height and a rope you must tie them to the reeds passing a rope for the main stem, and another if necessary for the branches.

Happy harvest 🙂.
