What are the characteristics of Prunus cerasus?
Our protagonist is a deciduous fruit tree (it loses its leaves in autumn-winter) probably originating in Asia. It is known by the common names cherry, sour cherries, sour cherry, sour cherry and cherry cherry. It grows to a height of between 4 and 10 meters, with oval or elliptical leaves 3.5 to 7.5cm long.
Its fruits are dark red berries that can be called cherries if they have a stem, sour cherries if they contain a low amount of sugar, picotas , which are sold without the stem, or sour cherries if they are rough.

- Soil : it is important that it has good drainage , that it is fresh and rich in organic matter.
- Watering : frequent, especially in summer. It is recommended to water three or four times a week during the hottest months, and slightly less (one-two times a week) the rest of the year.
- Fertilizer : from spring to the end of summer, it should be fertilized with organic fertilizers, such as chicken manure (letting it dry for a week in the sun beforehand), or goat manure.
- Planting or transplanting time : in spring.
- Multiplication : by stratifying its seeds in autumn-winter, by cuttings in spring and by air layering in spring-summer.
- Hardiness : it withstands cold and frost well down to -10ºC.
