How to care for violets

The African violet blooms in winter and spring, although its flowers only last about two to three weeks. Caring for this evergreen plant is not too complicated, although you must follow some fundamental guidelines if you want it to develop perfectly.

To begin, you must place the plant in fresh, compact, and calcareous soil in a cool and humid space in the semi-shade, where the sun comes only indirectly.

However, the fact that the plant must be kept in a humid environment does not mean that it must be watered too frequently or in abundance, as it is quite sensitive in this regard: in the hottest times of summer it is convenient to water the violets a couple of times a week, but during the colder months you should water it only once every fortnight.

Unlike other plants, the violet must be watered without wetting its leaves, stems, and flowers, depositing the water on the ground. A good tip to do this is to use the immersion irrigation technique, and for this, you just have to put it on a plate with water for about 15 minutes so that it can absorb the water it needs and then remove it.

Leaf spots, lack of flowers, unusual pale colors, mold, and insects are signs that something is wrong with our plant. Pay attention to every detail and inform yourself of the best ways to sanitize it again.
