It is an annual herb native to the Mediterranean region, Portugal, Ireland, Great Britain, Holland, Germany and Bulgaria. Grows to a height of between 5 and 50cmwith stems covered by villi. Leaves sprout from these, the basal ones being elliptical to obovate, and the upper ones having hairs. The inflorescences, which sprout in spring-summer, are terminal, and are formed by flowers 1-2cm in diameter whose petals are yellow.

It has a rapid growth rate; not in vain, it only has a few months to flower and leave its seeds before drying out.
