How to grow tillandsias

The Tillandsia is a plant that lives on air

Tillandsias are plants that look great anywhere. I repeat: in anyone. In addition, they are very easy to care for and are so beautiful that they decorate the home in an incredible way. Now, what care do they need?

Surely you have ever seen them in nurseries simply put in cardboard boxes, or placed on glass jars and you have wondered if they are live plants or not, right? Well right now you will know why they have them like this and, most importantly, how to grow tillandsias.

Grow your tillandsias on dry logs

The tillandsias or carnation of the air are epiphytic plants, that is, they grow precisely on the branches of the trees. They are not parasites. They have a very shallow and very short root system, enough to hold tight to the cracks in the branches or trunks. They do not like direct light, but at home it will be necessary to place them in a very bright room so that they can grow well.

The question is: where to put the plants? In pots? In glass glasses? Where? The answer is simple: wherever you want. Yes, yes: since you don’t really need substrate, you can put them anywhere. You just have to keep in mind that they need high humidity, since they stay alive thanks to the water absorbed by the pores of their leaves.

For that, you should spray them with lime-free water once a day or every two daysor put them for example in glass glasses with stones moistened with water, as you can see in the image above. There are those who even use them to make kokedamas, which need a lot of humidity as they are made with moss.

So, as you can see, tillandsias are so easy to care for that they really don’t need almost anything. Just a little water, and may the owner enjoy it a lot .
