This little plant is ideal, not only to have in the garden, but also to have in a pot. Its height does not exceed 30cm and it is very easy to growas much or more than the cabbage that is planted for human consumption. In scientific terms it is known as brassica oleraceaand is native to Asia Minor reaching the Mediterranean.

Although in origin it is a perennial herbaceous plant, it is considered an annual plant since is sensitive to intense frosts. Even so, if you live in a climate whose winters are extreme, you can have it indoors by decorating a room that has a lot of light.

Irrigation must be frequentpreventing the substrate from drying out between waterings. Being a very adaptable plant, it can grow in any type of garden soil, but it will appreciate that we fertilize it periodically with a slow-release organic fertilizer (such as worm castings).

If you want to have your own ornamental cabbages, get a seed packet that you will find in any nursery or garden store, and sow them during spring-summer. They will generally germinate in a matter of ten days if the temperatures are around 15 or 20 degrees.
