Flower

Although the cold will soon arrive in the northern hemisphere, there are still some how many weeks of sun in many places and that is well known by our protagonists of today, the echeveria. A genus of plants crass (that is, they store water in their leaves, thus making them fleshy) very grateful, very fast growing, and of an ornamental value… spectacular.

Do you want to know how to get healthy and strong plants, and thus make them flourish?

The care and maintenance of these plants is very simple. They only need the following:

  • Flower pot made of plastic or clay (those made of clay are more ornamental, but also more expensive, and if you want to have a collection, the plastic ones will be much cheaper). Always choose pots somewhat larger than the one you already had.
  • Substratum draining, with black peat and 50% perlite for example.
  • Irrigation weekly in summer. The rest of the year it will be enough to water them every 15 or 20 days.
  • Fertilizeruniversal for plants, specific for cacti or organic. It is indifferent. They are plants that appreciate that, following the manufacturer’s recommendations, they are fertilized.
  • Location: full sun. Although most of Echeveria support weak and brief frosts, down to -3º, we must protect them indoors if we live in an area where intense or long-lasting frosts are frequent. They survive morning frosts, although their leaves are often lost or damaged.
  • Pests: snails, mealybugs and aphids are common. They must be treated with specific products.

They are used a lot as a potted plant, in rockeries, or you can even plant many different joints in a tire, thus creating a wheel for your garden that will attract the eyes of more than one … and not just human, for sure!

They are very cheap plants, that grow fast, of different shapes and colors, who would not want to have some in their home?
