And, I do not mean the typical and, incidentally, precious crown that women who are about to marry sometimes wear, but a beautiful bush whose species is Spiraea cantoniensis already known by the name of Bride’s crown or Spiraea of Japan.
It reaches a height of 1 or 2 meters, so looks great as a mid-height hedge or even as an isolated specimensince when it blooms it is quite a spectacle. Its delicate white petals hide the leaves, making it look very, very pretty.
What is the Bridal Crown like?
Our protagonist is a deciduous shrub that loses its leaves in autumn-winter from Asia, specifically China and Japan. It grows up to 2 meters in height. It is a highly branched plant, with thin, arched, flexible and glabrous branches that measure 60-70cm in length.. The leaves are small, from 2 to 6 cm, lanceolate and with a rhomboid elliptical shape.
The flowers are hermaphroditic, which means that the female and male organs are in the same flower, they measure 1cm in diameter and are white.. They are grouped in inflorescences in the form of an axillary corymb. Once they are pollinated, the fruit begins to ripen inside which are numerous brown seeds.
How do you take care of yourself?

- Location: outdoors, in full sun or semi-shade.
- Soil or substrate: it is not very demanding, but it is important that it has good drainage and that it is rich in organic matter.
- Irrigation: frequent. Every 2-3 days in summer and every 4-5 days the rest of the year.
- Subscriber: During spring and summer it must be paid, either with powder if it is on the ground, or liquid if it is in a pot.
- Pruning: when it finishes flowering, the old branches have to be removed and it has to be given a rounded shape.
- Planting or transplanting time: in spring.
- Multiplication: by seeds or by cuttings in spring.
- Rusticity: it supports well the cold of up to -8ºC.
