In various parts of the world we find very unique plants, such as the Araucariabetter known as the storied pine. Conifers are plant beings that have colonized much of the planet, including coastal areas, where our protagonist is usually found.

The Araucaria is native to Australia, Chile, Brazil and Argentina. It is a plant capable of reaching an incredible 70m in height. It has a conical shape, with branches distributed in horizontal floors, and a trunk whose thickness does not exceed 40cm. This interesting feature was surely the one who gave it its popular name: storied pine. It has a very slow growth, but on the other hand … it is quite long-lived, since it can live around 1000 years.: There is nothing!

It grows without problems in mild climates, with frosts down to -5ºC. If it is colder in your area you can have it inside your homein a very bright room, away from drafts, as these could “burn” the leaves.

Araucaria heterophylla

Although we are facing a very tall plant, due to its growth rate and that it will not take up too much space, it is ideal to have in medium or large gardens. It will look great as an isolated specimenat a distance of about 2-3 meters from any construction.

It is interesting to plant it in rustic style gardens, always in full sun, since the Araucaria will provide that touch of elegance that only it can give. But, yes, It is highly advisable to do preventive anti-mealybug treatmentsespecially in spring and summer. If the environment is very dry, whether you are indoors or outdoors, one way to avoid being affected by them is by spraying the foliage twice a week.

With these tips, and watering it once every seven days, your Araucaria it will look beautiful for many, many years.
