You can grow it outdoors all year round, since it resists moderate frosts (down to -15ºC) without problems.

Basic care

The basic care that these beautiful shrubs need are the following:

  • Location: Most of the Japanese shrubs that we have seen need to be protected from direct sun, especially if the climate is warm or warm-temperate. Just the Rough rose It must be in the sun, or at least in semi-shade.
    In the case of those that are sensitive to frost, such as aralia, they must be protected during the winter indoors or in a greenhouse.
  • Substrate / soil and type of irrigation water: both with a low pH (that is, it is acidic, between 4 and 6). In addition, the soil must be rich in organic matter, and it must not easily flood.
  • Fertilizer: from spring to autumn, with organic fertilizer or with a specific fertilizer for acidophilic plants (for sale here!). It is important to follow the directions on the package.
  • Pruning: towards the end of fall or the end of winter, and only if it really is necessary. Remove the dry branches, those that for some reason have broken, and also take the opportunity to trim a little those that are growing excessively.
