Cycas armstrongii

They are easily confused with palm trees, but they belong to two different genera. The Cycas are plants that coexisted with dinosaurs, while the appearance of garden princesses as many call them it was later. The care is also slightly different.

Do you want to know when to water the Cycas?

Cystes rolled into a pot

Depending especially on the climate, we will have to water more, or less. As the frequency can vary a lot, what I am going to tell you below you have to adapt to the conditions in which your plant is found; That is, if as a general rule it is usually advised to water twice a week but in your area it tends to rain often, your Cyca may only need one watering every 15 or 20 days. I explain this to you because it is a plant that does not tolerate excess waterso much so that it prefers to be in rather dry land and receive sporadic irrigation.

We have to bear in mind that it will also depend a lot on whether we have it in a pot or planted in the garden. In the first case, it will be necessary to pour water more often (about 2-3 times in summer and 1-2 the rest of the year), while in the second we will have to wait a little longer to repeat the task.

The substrate or the earth that we have has to be porous. If yours has a tendency to compact a lot, you can mix it with pearlite, or clay balls that you will find for sale in nurseries or garden stores.

Do not forget add a little compost throughout the growing season -from spring to late summer- to achieve an exceptionally beautiful plant. This can be chemical, or organic such as worm castings, manure or even guano.
