Our joys of home They are very showy flowering plants. Ideal to keep in a pot, as they are native to tropical regions during the coldest months of the year, they must be protected so that they arrive in spring safely.

Impatiens

Our protagonist, whose scientific name is Impatiens wallerianais a small plant about 40cm high with simple leaves, with slightly serrated edges. As long as the weather is good, it behaves like a perennial plant with a life expectancy of 7-8 years; but in temperate or cold regions it is used more as a seasonal plant, since it is very economical (a specimen already blooming can cost 1 euro or less in Spain). But even though you live in an area where winters are harsh, you can have it inside your homealways bearing in mind that the temperature should not drop below 13ºC.

We will place it in a very bright room, but protected from drafts (both cold and warm). Thus, an ideal place would be for example in a bedroom that had a lot of natural light.

Nor can we forget about the humidity. It cannot be neither too high nor too low, since in both cases it could be affected by fungi or pests (red spider, aphid). To get the right one, we can put glasses or bowls with water around it, or place it on a tray with pebbles. It is not recommended to spray it, as it could damage its leaves.

Irrigation during this season will have to be weeklythus avoiding that the substrate is flooded. If we have it on a plate, when we water, we will discard the excess water.
