What are the syngonium care?

The syngonios are one of the easiest plants to have at home because just with a few simple cares you can get them to grow and offer you a beautiful decoration and plant. But, of course, it is necessary to know what the care of the syngonium is.

If they still resist you, or you want to know if you give them all the care they need, then here you will find the detailed care. Of course, keep in mind that there are many types of syngonium and that implies that some will have different or different characteristics that will make you have to vary or do something else for them. Let’s get to know them in depth?

Lighting

We are going to start in this case, with the lighting and, with it, with the location of the syngonium. The first thing you should know is that it is an all-terrain plant. This means that we are talking about a plant that It is capable of adapting practically to what you give it.

If you place it in a shaded area, it will survive. If it is in a bright area, it will survive. If the sun gives it, it can survive depending on the hours and temperature.

Usually, the ideal lighting and location for the syngonium is in very bright places but without direct sun. At first it is not good for the sun to shine on it, although, when it is already adapted to the climate, environment, etc., nothing would happen to it if it were given a few hours of sun (never the most dangerous ones (from 12 to 5 pm).

If you do not have a bright area, as we have told you, you can put it in the shade. The problem is that, when you do it, the leaves darken and in some cases it loses the variegation or the tones that characterize it, so it is recommended that there be light.

Temperature

We cannot tell you that this is not a problem, because it is. It is from the care of the syngonium that you must be careful because it does not tolerate the cold very well and it is important to take care of this aspect so that it does not get sick.

The ideal temperature at which the syngonium It will be fine if it is between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius. Now, it does not mean that beyond 21ºC it suffers. If it is already adapted to the climate, the most normal thing is that it tolerates much higher temperatures. We are talking about 30-35. Of course, in the case of cold it does not have as much tolerance. If the temperature drops lower than 10 degrees then yes it will suffer quite a lot and could even disappear.

Substratum

Another care of the syngonium that you must take into account is the type of land that it will need to develop correctly. In case you don’t know, this plant needs to have oxygenation in the roots because it needs a soil that does not compact too much.

In this sense, the best you can do is a mix between blonde peat and perlite. In this way, you help the roots to expand easily without the need for them to suffer.

The truth is that, if you provide him with good soil, he will thank you very much because you will see how he grows even faster.

Irrigation

We come to one of the most difficult syngonium care and that can influence the health of your plant. To begin with, you should know that the syngonium needs that, Between watering and watering, the land dries up. In this way you will prevent it from being flooded and that this affects the plant. But there is more…

Watering should be moderate. Our advice is to water until water comes out of the holes below and then leave at least 10 minutes for it to absorb the water it needs. After that time, you can remove the excess water and wait for the soil to dry again (which will depend above all on the size of the pot, oxygenation it has, etc.).

With regard to humidity, which is another point related to irrigation, the truth is that the syngonium does not need it in that sense. It is true that, if it lives in a very dry environment it will appreciate you spraying it from time to time, but you don’t need it as a mandatory weekly.

Subscriber

The subscriber does appreciate it, especially in spring and summer, which will be when you notice the plant growing the most. You can provide it through liquid fertilizer or by pouring it over the plant. Yes, it suits don’t go overboard either because you could burn the plant inside. So be careful.

Pruning

In general, pruning is not one of the syngonium care that you should worry about. And it is that, although it loses leaves, these are easy to remove and you will see that it will take out more and more as time goes by.

But you only have to “pluck” those leaves, nothing more, it is not necessary to use scissors to do it, since when they are withered they will practically fall off as you pull a little.

What we do recommend is that put a stake, whenever you want to see the plant grow vertically. This way you can have it more beautiful and it will grow much better (in fact, when it notices that it has a tutor it grows faster).

Plagues and diseases

Pests are one of the usual problems of syngonium and they are because they tend to be very leafy and offer shelter to many of them. In general, aphids, mites or mealybugs They are the most common.

But fortunately they are easy to liquidate. You just have to use neem oil to keep them at bay.

Multiplication

Finally, we have to talk to you about the reproduction of the syngonium. And in this sense you should know that it is very easy to get new plants through one. The reason is that, through the stems, they tend to create aerial roots. If these are allowed to grow and are placed in water, on land… you will have a new plant in a matter of months.

In fact, many use this process to bushier their plant.

As you can see, the care of the syngonium is very easy and there are so many different ones that if you are passionate about it, it is most likely that you will end up having several of them at home and taking care of them with just a few minutes of dedication. Do you have any tricks to take care of them?
