Cacti and succulents have fallen in love with many people around the world; and that number is only growing. For example, in the image above right in the center you can see a Echinocactus grussonii surrounded by Senecio, which is capable of occupying a small area in a very short time. But this is not a problem for the cactus, since with its thorns it is preventing the Senecio from bothering it. Thus, do not be afraid to put succulents -short-bearing- around the cacti: will create a spectacular image.
Although you will read me a lot to say that you have to put the highest plants behind and the lowest ones in front, in the case of a desert garden this is not always true.
