Features

Tillandsia

It belongs to the genus of the Tillandsia, which includes more than 650 species of epiphytic plants (that is, they grow on the trunks and branches of trees, without parasitizing it), originally from America. Specifically, it can be found in forests where humidity is high.

It is, as we said, a plant that hardly needs substrate, since its roots go deep into the crevices of the trees just so that it is well anchored. The leaves are responsible for absorbing the water and the nutrients dissolved in it in order to live.

Thus, in cultivation the Carnation of the air is a plant that we can have … in any corner. Some people choose to fill a glass bowl with volcanic clay, and plant it in the center, although if you live in a frost-free place you can have it on a high plant in your garden as you can see in the image above.

Even if you don’t need soil, humidity is very important, so it will have to be sprayed a minimum of twice a week; we will increase the frequency if we live in a dry and hot climate. After each »irrigation», we will remove the excess water to avoid putrefaction.

You no longer have an excuse for not having a plant in your home. Enjoy your Carnation from the air.
