Surely everyone has seen an orchid at some point in their life. And it is that these fascinating plants have flowers with very strange and exotic shapes that although at some point they can be difficult to grow, they pose a challenge for those who have them.

It is for this reason that today we bring you the necessary information about the types of flowers so you can decide to enter the wonderful world of orchids.

The orchids, beautiful and fascinating plants can be classified into 3 types:

  • Epiphytic orchids: This type of orchids are those that make up almost all of the species that exist on earth. They usually hang from trees and bushes. This type of orchids are the most colorful and most desired by everyone, they are the ones that we normally find for sale in the market. These types of plants are not parasites, they have very low needs and obtain the necessary water, nutrients and humidity from the air thanks to their aerial roots.

  • Semi-terrestrial orchids: these types of orchids generally grow on a mattress of leaves that are decomposing on the ground, or on some mossy stones. As we have already said, like epiphytic orchids they are not parasitic, since they seek the nutrients, moisture and water, from the decomposing leaves. Among this type of orchids we can find the following genera: paphiopedilum, phragmipedium, selenipedium and cypripedium.
  • Terrestrial orchids: terrestrial orchids, as their name implies, are those that have their roots in the ground. Among this type of orchids you can find the following genera: bletilla striata, calanthe vestita, chloraea, cranichis, etc.
