Caring for hyacinth in higher temperatures

hyacinth bulbs

The hyacinth is a plant in great need of care. Depending on the time of year, it needs one type of care or another. In this case, we are going to talk about the spring and summer time, when the temperatures are highest.

Most of the varieties of the hyacinth we know of have arisen from the species oriental blue. This plant is rarely cultivated anymore, instead hybrids called Dutch Hyacinths are sown. They are so abundant that they represent the species of Hyacinths.

When you buy Jacinto, you have to see if your bulbs are suitable for outdoors. If this is so, your bulbs will bloom in spring. Once you have chosen the type of bulb you want, they will only flower once successfully. This means that every year you have to buy another bulb. Although this is the case, you do not have to get rid of the bulbs that have bloomed, but you can reuse them outside by placing them about 15 cm deep. This way they can flourish again.

Hyacinth care in the colder months

If you want to have hyacinth flowers for Christmas time, you must have fresh bulbs to plant in the fall. So they can flourish by the end of the year. To keep them in good condition, you must pay it with a good compost.

To prepare the hyacinth at the time when the temperatures are lower (autumn and winter), you have to plant them in a container that does not have water outlet holes and make sure that when you water the plant you do not saturate it with water. So that it grows in good condition you will need to fertilize it with a compost in the bottom of the pot and plant the bulbs on top. Let around the bulbs peek a bit so they can grow, the rest fill them with compost.

The container where you have grown it should be kept in a cool, humid and dark place. To do this you must bury the container in 15 cm of peat. Once the tips of the leaves have appeared on the surface, you will have to move the bulbs where there is more light. The ideal temperature should be between 10 and 18 ° C.

The bulbs can also flourish in other types of containers such as glass, but as long as they are filled with water and have been designed for it. If you want to sow it in this type of container, you just have to fill it so that the base of the bulb is in contact with the water, keep it in a dark and cool place and wait for the leaves to grow up to 2,5 cm. Once you have them like this, you should move it to a bright place and at room temperature. If the roots have developed, it is not necessary to increase the water level to reach the base of the bulb, since it will drown it.

This plant is native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia. However, although the original spice is already very difficult to find, since it is found in few places, you can see many varieties of different colors: red, yellow, white, pink and mauve. There are varieties whose flowers can reach to measure between 10 and 15 cm long and are supported by a stem of about 10 cm.
