The carnivorous plant known as Venus flytrap, whose scientific name is Dionaea muscipulais such a popular plant that several cultivars have been made from it. Some set much larger traps, others change the color red for a darker and more intense one.

The name comes from Japanese, which means »Red Dragon». It is very similar to the type species (Dionaea muscipula), however the color is different. Both the traps, as well as the leaves and petioles have a dark maroon / burgundy color.. In winter the center of the plant can turn green.
