Boxwood cultivation is very simple. You just need to know the following:

  • Location– It will grow spectacularly in places where it receives direct sunlight.
  • Substratum: if it is potted, you can use a universal substrate or mix 70% compost or mulch with 30% perlite.
  • Land: on the other hand, if you choose to have it in the garden, it will live in clay, calcareous, neutral-type soils.
  • Irrigation: in summer we will water, as a general rule, two or three times a week, and the rest of the year between 1 and 2.
  • Treatment against pests: they are very important, since it is usually affected by fungi of the species Phyllosticta buxina, Phytophthora cinnamomi y Rousselian pseudometry. Apply fungicides preventively throughout the growing period (from spring to autumn).
  • Pruning: it must be pruned after the frosts pass, or one or two months before they arrive. We have to remember to clean the tools that we are going to use and put healing paste on each wound.
  • Rusticity: withstands cold down to -5ºC.
