Potted garlic

«Day that passes in January, garlic that loses the ajero». December y Januarywith the coldest temperatures, these are the best months for plantar garlic. Although in pots it is possible to plant them throughout the year, as soon as a warmer climate emerges in February, garlic that loses the ajero, come on, that our sowing begins to lose possibilities.

However, garlic will need those warm temperatures to form its bulb, so this is our last moment, to plant potted garlicor on a growing table, orchard or garden. What do we need?

If we plant in flower potwe will need, at least, a container of 3 liters and 10 cm. diameter. The garlic root is not deep, so in a window box or a cultivating tableit could have a very adequate space, as long as we respect a distance of 10 cm. between plant and plant.

Garlic is kind of direct seedingIt does not need a previous germination in the seedbed. The same clove of garlic serves us as a seed. To sow it, we will buy a head of garlic and choose the teeth with the best shape, size and appearance. We will discard those that have grown in groups (2 or 3 teeth together) or those that lose their skin when separated.

We will bury each tooth with it pointed end upplanting them about 5 cm. Of the surface. On the cultivation table, if we plant more than one, we will leave a distance of 10 cm. between them and we will plant them in a row. We will water after planting.

Precisely, the irrigation garlic is one of the keys to its success. All its peculiarities, we saw them in a previous post, which I leave you in this link.

We must bear in mind that garlic has a certain latency, that is, that freshly harvested garlic may take a certain time before germinate. A full head will come out of each garlic clove. We will collect our harvest 6 or 8 months after sowing, 15 or 20 days after the last watering, so that the garlic can dry.

As we saw in our crop association table, garlic is compatible with lettuce, carrot and endive, not very compatible with cabbage and peas and incompatible with the species of the same family, the liliaceae, such as onion, leek and asparagus.
