Plant bulbs or seeds?

The onion is a bulbous plant whose scientific name is garlic onion. Because it has a rather slow growth, it is recommended to proceed to plant the bulb or sow the seed in autumn / winter -if you live in a mild climate-, or after the frosts pass, in this way we will have a guaranteed harvest before summer.

Now, what is better: sowing the seed or planting the bulb? Okay, everything will depend on the rush you have. If you choose to sow, the plant will need more time to mature the onion (that is, the bulb); and if you prefer to plant the bulb, the time it will require will be much less. Regardless of what you do, growing will be a breeze.

In fact, you just have to do the following:

  1. Prepare the soil for sowing or planting. These plants will grow wonderfully if the soil is sandy, or if it has been mixed with perlite or any other porous material.
  2. Sow your seeds by burying them a little with soil, or insert the bulb to a depth of about 15cm. It is important to leave a distance between plants of about 15-20cm at a minimum, so that the onion can fully develop.
  3. Finally, there will only be to water.

Note: if you don’t have land, you can also have your own onions by planting the bulbs or seeds in pots, or even in large, previously washed buckets of paint.

Happy harvest!
